What is Reiki?
The word Reiki, pronounced ray-key, means universal life energy. It's definition being: that power which act and lives in all matter. This energy is boundless and pure. It is the essence that gives vitality to form. Reiki healing is a precise method for connecting this universal energy with the body's healing powers.
Where did it come from?
Reiki was discovered in the mid 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese educator. It's origin is in the Tibetan sutras.
How is it done?
Reiki is the most simple and natural healing method known. Reiki is done by laying hands on the receiver, who is fully and comfortably clothed. Once the practitioner has been opened up to become a "channel" for Reiki, the concentrated life energy flows through their hands of it's own accord.
How does it work & what is to be expected?
The best way to know that Reiki works is to experience it. Reiki has a "logic" of its own - it is intelligent energy. It knows where and to what extent is required, thus making diagnosis unnecessary. Reiki can never do damage in any way. During Reiki treatment some may feel deep relaxation, others may feel subtle sensations, some may feel nothing. Sometimes Reiki will bring to the surface old and unresolved experiences, bringing also a release of emotions. Regardless of one's immediate impression, Reiki always acts upon the recipient, even if it's effects are not immediately felt.
Do you need to believe?
Although it is not necessary for the receiver to believe n Reiki (as in a small child or someone unconscious) it is beneficial to hold a positive attitude & a desire to get better, thus supporting the work of the practitioner in an active way and becoming their own co-practitioner. Reiki gives the power and control to the receiver.
