MESSAGE OF PEACE 2009
By Yogi Sundari MD
Aka Susan Groh MD

Are you all ways peaceful? Yoga is a path, or more accurately a science with many paths which, when practiced with earnest, leads to a peaceful mind and an easeful body.

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father, brothers, sisters are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment, and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. (1)

I am writing as I sit in Charlottesville Airport, having completed a Silent Retreat. (2)

My life has become so crowded, especially with the added holiday activities, that my usual yoga and meditation practice has not been able to sustain my peace and joy. And so I retreat to get quiet, to explore within, to eat vegetables, to meditate, to chant, to do asanas, to walk in the woods in the rain, to hear uplifting spiritual talks, to pray alone and as part of a community, and to remain silent.

The message of all faiths is so very similar. As my teacher, Swami Satchitananda, said , “Paths are many. Truth is One.” And so he imaged and manifested the LOTUS.

Light Of Truth Universal Shrine
Dedicated to the Light of all faiths and to world peace
Buckingham Virginia

The LOTUS is a unique interfaith shrine which includes twelve altars for all faiths known and yet unknown. The LOTUS serves as a reminder that, while God may be approached in a variety of names and forms, the Truth behind all of these forms is the same. There is unity in diversity.

Ah. The plane from New York is now arriving. I return to my life with a firmer sense of myself. What is the Self?
I am not the mind.
I am not the body.
I am not the thoughts.
When my mind is disturbed, I can still be peaceful.
Realization of the Self will remove ignorance, which is the root cause of human suffering.
In Hindu teaching, Brahman is one of the names of God as the Creator. “In Brahman, there was a vibration before the world was projected. He willed. ‘I am one; may I become many.’ Then the whole world was projected. This world floats in Him like a log in the ocean.” (3) “This world is ephemeral and a passing show, a phenomenon only for a time. There is no individual existence.” (4) “Realise this immortal soul which is hidden in your heart.” (5) “It should be known that Brahaman is identical with the Self.” (6) I am not really a piece of God, because God is not divisible. “Like a flame’s appearance in a hall of mirrors, God is infinitely reproduced.” (7).
The Self is indivisible, immortal, fearless, changeless, deathless, spaceless, timeless, all pervasive, self-luminous. And we are created in His own image. He goes by various names: God, Adonai, Allah, Ishvara, etc.
See God everywhere. See love everywhere. See God in all. Serve humanity and you will
be serving God. Then you will have peace on earth.
